she's a what???....

Housewife.

Housewife… interesting title right!??  Some folk think it means;
A woman who stays home to take care of the house, the kids, the husband and the pets. She works up a sweat, has anxiety attacks and burst into tears when a 2 year old says "no!" for the 100th time that day after having to picking up dog poop from the living room floor, washing 3 loads of laundry, washed all the dishes, went grocery shopping with 2 screaming kids, who get sick and throw up in the middle of the store. Then she comes home ,cleans up the kids, starts to make dinner with both kids hanging on her leg, only to have it burn. She receives no thanks from anyone and gets no paycheck.

I have no life...I am a housewife.

Or

What a woman becomes when she has no job skills, no career aspirations, no confidence and no goals in life.

Becoming a housewife has got to be the most mind-numbing waste of time in this world. There's nothing wrong with being one if they have another job or calling on the side, but to do it and nothing else means you are in need of serious help.

Or

An uneducated woman with no self-esteem and no life who thinks she has to devote herself to rearing children, her husband, the home and the pets.

A housewife is what a woman becomes when she has no goals in life.

Yeah… I call bull shit!  I’m a housewife and I’m fabulous!  This is my new blog.  Some folk may say a great many things about being a housewife, but I say… They have clearly not spent one day in one of my many adventures!  Adventures that kinda kick ass...  ;)

Cheers to all the housewives!!  This blog is to us!

  1. I read your crafty blog, and just saw you've started this one. Love your writing (+ sewing), and I really liked your 'what is a housewife' bit in this post.

I'm new to blogging, and struggle a bit with the whole sewing/home life separation. Go you for maintaining two blogs now, as an answer that that kind of dilemma. Really hope you enjoy it, thanks for all the inspiration. Cat

  3. Of course, I'm over here to read your "housewife" blog....lol! A Housewife is a VERY SPECIAL person and it takes all of what you possess to be a good one. You must be educated in all things human...what one says, does...hmmm that would be the detective part of being a housewife; a MAGICIAN - performing magic at any given moment and without notice; Psychologist/Psychiatrist; DOCTOR - gotta diagnose those simple colds, flu, earaches and other maladies that real MDs seem to MISS! Let me see what other hats do we wear. TEACHER...gotta be the best teachers ever! NUTRITIONIST...what should your family really be consuming? sometimes it's a different diet for each family member...ARGH! Heehee...see, I'm really getting into your blog already! I could go on, but I won't .... oh wait....got sick hubby and/or kids....calls for the NURSE hat!!! and on and on!!! Well, I look forward to reading your blog and I promise NOT to take over with long comments...maybe! lol!

  6. Another housewife here! I'm learning to drop the "just" part :)
I have a question for all the lovely housewife sisters out there. Christmas parties are coming along - when someone asks me "what do you do?" in the past they just wander off when I say something like "I'm the mother of four gorgeous children". Should I care?
Should I come up with something more clever?
    Thoughts appreciated.
And good luck with your great new blog, Heather!

  7. UUUgGGgg! i HEAR you Needlefoot!

i used to joke and say, " OOohhh... i'm a trophy wife" then they'd just give me the one over... actually, accessing if i could truly be one!!...

    bastards.

now i say, " i'm a housewife". and if they even think of giving me shit... i end it quickly with a, " can you believe i'm so lucky??".

    ;)

  11. Cool Heather!
I am looking forward to reading about your housewife adventures.
As a 'housesingle' {not married you see} I've brought many a conversation to a crashing halt when answering the dreaded 'and what do you do?'
One man actually suggested I'd get a job at the local supermarket instead...oh yes he did! Of course I told him what a frikkin' genius he was ;-)

  13. Hey Heather,

my housewife- times are over now, after enyoing them for 20 years. I loved to see my son growing up and he gives me the feedback, that he enjoyed it very much. Why do we give our children to strange people , who watch them grow and follow their successes ? Now I'm going to be a speech- therapist ( still 2 years to go :-( ) and see those children who missed the warm contact to their mother at my school...... freightning......
By the way, I looooove your playlist :-))

Regards from an Indian summer in Germany,

  14. Ohhh Heather...you nailed it, I JUST picked up sick dog poop (you know, the kind that takes half an hour to clean up) a few seconds ago that was right in the middle of our entryway. God love our dog but does she really have to get an upset tummy right as I'm heading to bed? And yes, the whole time I was cleaning it up I was wondering who will ever realize that I was up at 2am doing this and where's the "thanks", gosh darn it!?

Yes, being a housewife is way more work than any other job I've ever had. I've never been so exhausted in my life! I have a feeling I'm going to love this blog! ;-)

  15. I call bullshit too! Home management is a career. Raising kids has to be the most important job of all. The amount of responsibility and accountability is enough to make mere mortals run from the building. Have fun with the new blog.

  16. Heather

  18. a-freakin'-men ... i'm a housewife, too; my second iteration as a matter of fact ... home with my five children (first marriage) for twenty-five (that's 25) years, now home, again - yaaaa, with just the hubbs .... i would not switch this for the world .... i did work *out* for a time after i got a divorce, graduated with a ba and a masters, and loved my job (llbean), but this is where it rocks ... home, home, home!!!

thanks for your new blog ... i'm looking forward to your words of wisdom (or whatever words you have) ...

  19. LOL!! I love waking up to great revolt first thing in the morning!

It’s so refreshing to know that I’m not alone in this anti/your less/man-mooch of a woman because I choose to stay home with my children! I’m with you girls ;)

  22. I call bullshit too! I LOVE that I am a housewife/stay at home mom! I get so much crap from people since my son will be 18 tomorrow and people wonder why I still stay home, hubby and I have made it so I can stay at home, we like it so that when he takes vacation, I can be off at anytime too! (great perk!) are we rich? heck no! we do without and I save where I can. People think I must be bored and have no life and blah blah blah, heck I wish I had an extra 2 hours in the day, mainly to sew or scrapbook! lol
I love my life, wouldn't trade it for anything, we are very blessed, hard times? for sure, but we make do :)
love your new blog (and your old one!)
Heres to us boring housewives that kickass!

  23. Let's hear it for stay at home moms and housewives! I've been a stay at home mom and housewife for 20 years. Years ago people would look at me like I had leprosy or something when I told them I wanted to stay at home with my kids...I'm sorry new moms still get the same reaction. I thought we were past that. All that said I still have to tell my 20 year olds to behave at the grocery store and to stop picking on each other. I guess it never ends and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Your quilting blog is so clever, I can't wait to read this one.

  25. I have told my hubs from the beginning that if we can afford it, I want to stay home with kids. He's all for it :) I don't really care what other people think because I know I will be giving my kids and husband the best of me and that's what's important.

  28. I'm hoping we can click on that 'all of me' link at the top of the page and see your 'new adventures' as a nude model. Heehee. You're fabulous and a freakin riot, and even though my own life does sound dangerously close to housewife #1 listed above, it's still pretty fabulous too.
